Incredibly Dark Forest: The most dire, deadly, dangerous and deceptive evil forest in all of Arden. With a few limited exceptions, no one who enters the Incredibly Dark Forest comes back alive, if at all. Among other creatures the IDF is home to goblins, trolls, ogres, and a race of Luminous Green Spiders. Even the plants are deadly.
Geography
The IDF is bounded on the north by the Gaede Range of mountains and on the west by the River Volkus, which runs through a long, deep canyon. East of the northern stretch is a barren plain. Further south and southeast of the forest are the Bitterspleen Hills (which also extend northwest into the forest, meeting the Gaede Range) and Orphalia. To the southwest the forest faces the lands of Ganth across the River Crownbolt.
The River Arbenflow river flows southward from the Gaede Range roughly dividing the forest into eastern and western halves. The forest extends at least ninety leagues in each direction from the river.
There is also reputedly a Hidden River in the forest. Tales are told of a haunted castle full of cursed treasure that stands at the juncture of the Hidden and the Arbenflow. This was also, according to The Gods, where Jason Cosmo was to find the Shrine of Greenleaf.
Mouth of the Forest
The Arbenflow exits the forest at the Mouth of the Forest and joins the Crownbolt several leagues south of the forest proper. Along the southern verge of the forest is a band several leagues across of spiky thorns, brambles, pits and thick brush infested with warp wasps, hellgophers, and other horrors. There are piles of skulls and other bones along the river banks in the approach to the Mouth. It is unclear who placed them there.
Plants of the Forest
Ancient trees tower hundreds of feet high throughout the forest. Many trees are so large that twenty men linking arms could not encircle the trunk. These huge trees are devoid of branches at lower levels, but encrusted with lichens, vines and fungi. The canopy is extensive and blocks out most sunlight below, making the forest incredibly dark.
Most undergrowth consists of huge mushrooms, growing to heights up to twelve feet, along with weird grey moss and lichens.

While it is popularly held that no one who enters the Incredibly Dark Forest lives to tell the tale, this isn't exactly true. Personages known to have entered the Forest and returned alive include:
